Sub:-  Suitable compensation to COVID-19 workers of the Department who are on duty during the lockdown period.

Respected Comrade,
Inviting a kind reference to PJCA Odisha (NFPE, FNPO & BPEF) letter No. PJCA-Odisha / COVID-19/2020, dated 04.04.2020, we would like to remind you that we had given many suggestions on behalf of Odisha Circle along with the following three important points.

i.            The life of each postal employee who is ordered to work during the lockdown period should be insured for Rs.50 lakh by the Central Govt.

ii.            There should be provision of short-term health insurance for each postal employee including GDS brought on duty during the lockdown period.

iii.           Since the job of the employees brought on duty is fraught with risk, they should be compensated with an incentive at least of Rs.1000/- per day during the lockdown period like doctors, health workers etc.

However, due to the sincere efforts taken by NFPE, compensation of Rs.10 lakh to all Departmental employees and GDS to cover death due to COVID-19 while discharging official duties was extended vide Directorate letter No. 100-4/2020-Pen, dated 17.04.2020.

But no action on the other two valid issues has yet been taken.

In this context, we would like to intimate that State Bank of India has since declared a compensation of one day salary for every 6 working days on which an employee has worked till the end of the nation-wide lockdown.

As postal services are considered as essential services by the Central Govt. and exempted from the lockdown, our staff members are providing essential services to the customers adopting various safety guidelines and maintaining social distancing in Post and RMS offices, Circle, Division and other administrative offices, PSDs, CSDs etc.

Therefore, it is requested once again to appraise the Directorate to provide appropriate compensation as proposed above in recognition to the selfless services rendered by our employees during this challenging period of Corona Pandemic.

       With regards.

Comradely yours,

(Bruhaspati Samal)
Circle Secretary
