The cyclone brought winds of more than 250 kmph when it made landfall near Puri on May 3. The storm caused several deaths, demolished 508467 houses and affected 1.5 crore people and 8739757 animals  of 16659 villages  in 159 blocks and 52 Urban Local bodies of 14 districts and rendered millions of people homeless in the cities of Puri, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Khurda.
